We offer our patients comprehensive ophthalmic care through our team of eyecare providers: Don E. Marascalco, M.D., J. Lawrence Mason Jr., M.D., Cassie N. Confait, M.D., and Eric J. Johnson, O.D. We also have two satellite offices to better serve our patients. These offices include the Butler Eye Center in Butler, Alabama and the Livingston Eye Center in Livingston, Alabama.
Our clinic takes great pride in providing state of the art diagnostic and surgical services for our patients. We were the first in the area to offer clear cornea, topical anesthesia cataract surgery. We were the also the first to offer Laser Vision Correction. Our CustomVue Wavescanner was the first in-house unit in Mississippi, and we are the only center in the area offering Intralase bladeless refractive surgery.

Dr. Marascalco is one of the most experienced ophthalmologists in the State of Mississippi. He is Board Certified and specializes in clear cornea, topical anesthesia cataract surgery, Lasik laser vision correction as well as Diabetic and Glaucoma laser surgery. He was among the first pioneering surgeons in Mississippi to perfect the no shot, no stitch, no bandage technique for cataract surgery. Dr. Marascalco is a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1977 and finished his general medical training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1981. Dr. Marascalco completed his Internal Medicine Internship and his Ophthalmology Residency in 1985 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He founded the Eye Clinic of Meridian at its present location in 1985.
Dr. Marascalco is a Visx Customvue and Intralase certified refractive surgeon. He has received the Top Ten Surgeons and Gold Surgeons Awards for his expertise in refractive surgery. Dr. Marascalco has performed over 12,000 Lasik surgical procedures and currently offers bladeless Lasik surgery using the new Intralase technology.
Dr. Marascalco is actively involved in the community and has special interest in the Boy Scouts of America. His wife Tricia, their three children, Beth, Frank and Ann Claire and his four grandchildren are the joy of his life. They enjoy snow skiing, boating, traveling, rafting, horseback riding, tennis and trips to the beach. He has numerous hobbies including, vegetable gardening, fishing, farming and wildlife photography. He is a avid duck and turkey hunter and holds the Mississippi State Record for harvesting the gobbler with the longest spur.
Dr. Lawrence Mason is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in clear cornea/topical anesthesia cataract surgery, laser vision correction, and diabetic laser surgery. He is a native of Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Mason graduated from Jackson Prep in 1982 and attended Mississippi State University. He graduated from Belhaven College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology prior to receiving his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1991. Dr. Mason completed an internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at the University Medical Center in 1996. He also completed the Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology at Stanford University as well as the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Course at Georgetown. He joined the Eye Clinic of Meridian in 1999. He enjoys spending time with his wife Ginger and their two kids as well as model railroading, radio controlled aircraft, and woodworking. He and his family are active members of Central United Methodist Church where he serves on the Administrative Council and chairman of the Stewardship Committee. Dr. Mason served as chief of the medical staff of Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in 2006.
Dr. Confait is a board eligible ophthalmologist specializing in clear cornea/topical anesthesia cataract surgery as well as laser vision correction, diabetic and glaucoma laser surgery, and eyelid surgery. Dr. Confait is a VISX CustomVue and Intralase certified refractive surgeon offering the newest technology in laser vision correction.
Dr. Confait is a native of Meridian, MS and is proud to offer comprehensive surgical and medical eye care to the people of her hometown. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi’s Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology. Dr. Confait received her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She then completed an internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Confait enjoys spending time with her husband, Dan, and their two children, Jackson and Lyla. She and her family attend St. Patrick Catholic church and are actively involved in the community.
Dr. Eric Johnson is a Therapeutic Certified Optometrist specializing in the diagnosis and management of diseases of the eye. He is also trained in pre and post-operative care of cataract and laser vision correction patients. Dr. Johnson is a native of Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School in 1992. He graduated from the University of Alabama-Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1997. Dr. Johnson then completed his medical training at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating in 2002 with a Doctorate in Optometry. He joined the Eye Clinic of Meridian in 2002. Dr. Johnson enjoys sporting clays, golf, hunting, and fishing. He and his family are active members of Central United Methodist Church. In the community, Dr. Johnson is a volunteer basketball coach for the city of Meridian and frequently lectures to students of the Meridian Public School System.
